The name of Plaça de les Olles comes from an old market for pots that was in this space, an adjoining market to the one that was held daily, for fruits and vegetables, in Pla del Born (current Paseo del Born).
The neighborhood was also the scene of guild fairs, nobility, religious and popular festivals. Through the Plaza de les Olles, we have evidence of the passage of religious processions in the 18th century, such as the corpus, as well as the carnival parades of the 19th century.
The square is located in the Ribera neighbourhood, former Vilanova de Mar, an urban space that emerged in the 11th century outside the walls, remaining integrated within the urban area with the construction of the 13th century wall. Dynamic and commercial space due to the proximity of the sea, and county irrigation, which supplied water mainly for industrial use.
